SCHOOL DURING THE ECLIPSE
Please note that beginning tomorrow, Friday, April 5, 2024, we will begin blocking off our parking lot. We may send out texts with updated information but our current plan entails:
- Pre-k - we plan to place our bus to the west of the pre-k so as to block entrance to our side lot, etc. This may effect pickup so please be prepared to both enter and leave on St. Vincent St.
- K-12 - normal pickup routes will be in place but all cars need to be removed from the Sacred Heart parking lots by 4pm so they can be locked until Saturday evening 4pm Mass (parking lot will be accessible for after school care pickup).
Due to expected extreme traffic in the area becasue of the solar eclipse on April 8th, Sacred Heart School (Pre-k - 12th grades) will be closed on that Monday. As you may recall, we were open on President’s Day, so that we could plan to not be in session on the 8th. Therefore, this missed day will not have to be made up. It will also not be an AMI day - just simply a day off to enjoy the eclipse activities with your family.
We have been told to also expect the possibility of extreme traffic congestion extending into Tuesday, April 9th , as those visiting the area attempt to leave at the same time. Our current plans for Tuesday are:
- Pre-k - we intend to be open on Tuesday for normal hours so long as our staff are able to make it to school. If we are able, we will communicate any changes via text message. If the internet is disrupted and you arrive at SH to find no one at the Pre-k, then you can assume that the pre-school is closed for the day.
- K-12 - As we are unable to use AMI for this situation, we will be open on Tuesday. However, if it is unsafe for your family to drive that day, absences will not be counted against students. We do plan to send a parent alert text (if internet is not disrupted) late Monday with any updates.
- Pre-k - 12th grades - please plan to send lunch with your child in case our cafeteria staff is unable to make it to school.
Finally - we are asking for your help with following activities:
- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED SATURDAY – 2pm – to help prepare the concession stand. THANK YOU to our Robotics team who will help work Saturday and Sunday and all weekend proceeds will support their trip to the international robotics competition!
- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED MONDAY to allow paid parking for visitors and help in our concession stand from 8am-6pm. VOLUNTEERS WILL BE CREDITED DOUBLE SUPPORT HOURS FOR HELPING MONDAY.
We know there are a LOT of unknowns about how this event will affect our community and we are trying to plan as best we can. We appreciate any and all help!
